President’s
Message
I hope that you all had a good Christmas. We certainly
did at our daughter’s house.
I was overwhelmed at the outpouring of fleece blankets
that were made for Hope Haven children.
We wound up with so many that we were able to give also
to Noah’s Project and to The House That Kerry Built. You
are all so wonderful and certainly turned out when there
was a call for your help.
Hope to see you at the meeting next year.

Two of our members have websites where they sell
goodies.

Gina Reddin: http://www.splintersandthreads.net
I have many “string” and “log cabin” blocks
made that I would give to anyone who is making quilts to
give for charity. Just let me know, and I will get them to
you.-Varnelle McBeth
If any of you have quilting related items to buy, sell,
or trade, let us know and they will be included. This
could also be a good place to list needed fabrics,
patterns etc.

Projects from Jean
Mystery quilt – The
second installment of the mystery is included at the end
of this newsletter.
Charm Squares- - The
charm squares for January are spring prints -6
squares – 6 ˝”
.Hope Haven - There
are not words enough to thank everyone for the fleece
throws. They were wonderful. I took 24 to Hope Haven and
the rest went to The House That Kerry Built. I did give
four of them to children that live in a home in bad need
of heat. There is only heat in one room. They loved them.
Spring Workshop - I
will be setting up a date for a work shop to made walker
bags for a nursing home – more on this next month.

QUILT TIPS OF THE WEEK:
From Mark Lipinski (whom I have met and is a hoot!)
Trading Card Holders: Buy trading card dividers for needle
storage and place them in a binder. Insert needles into
felt or muslin squares that have been cut to the size of
the dividers. The holders can also be used to store
swatches of your fabric stash.
Prescription Bottles: Store thread spools in an old
prescription bottle to prevent the thread from tangling.
Burn a hole in the lid with a hot nail for ease in
controlling the thread. Bobbins can also be stored this
way. Store discarded needles in an old prescription bottle
too--this lessens the chance for needles to get lost in
the carpet and thus avoid accidents.
Bobbins and Thread: Keep spools of thread and matching
bobbins together by storing together on a large golf tee.
Secure the bobbin and thread together with a rubber band.

This Project should be on a good white fabric, using
#304 DMC red floss and a very thin batting behind your
work. You need to Make 12 blocks using a pattern that
represents your month. Example: June Wedding, Fathers Day,
Summer Begins, etc.
Cut white fabric and batting at least 9” square.
You
will trim to 8 ˝” after you have completed the squares.
Using the batting helps to keep the thread from showing on
top when you travel from one area to another, It also
gives a softer look. You also will need to cut 12 – 2 x
31/2” rectangles of the white fabric and sign you name
and month on each one and pin to each block. Be sure a
leave ˝” seam allowance all around the rectangles.
These will be to prepare a label to put on the back. The
blocks will be due at the February meeting.
