Hostesses for December
The Board members are the hostesses for the month of December. |
MEETING DECEMBER 10, 2007
December Program
The December program is going to be a “Make and Take” Christmas
project. Kathryn Rister and Gina Reddin have graciously made the
kits for this little project.
(It would probable be a good idea to slip a thimble and a pair of
scissors into your purse for the evening.)

2008 Quilt Show Report
The 2008 Quilt Show Committee had its regular meeting at 6:00 PM on
November 26th right before the board meeting. We met at Vicki
Craig’s house at 1367 Glenhaven. Varnelle showed the center
medallion of the 2008 raffle quilt, which is in progress. |
Don’t forget the Christmas Challenge.
The challenge is to make a quilted postcard like we did
in the meeting a couple of months ago. Bring it to the December
meeting. We will vote with change for the best. (The money will be
added to the money to shop for grooming items for the humbug bags. |
Membership
We need you!!! We are losing members. If you have friends who are
quilters or would like to be quilters, highjack them to one of our
meetings. Maybe, they will like what they see and will join us.
There are many quilters around the area that may think that they
have to be an expert to be in our group. NOT TRUE! We gather to
learn and enjoy each other's company, not to brag on our
accomplishments.

Projects from Nancy
We need to remember Hope Haven during this Christmas season. Several
members helped to make “Humbug” bags last week with Molly at the
Hancock’s store. These need to be filled for the Adult residents of
Hope Haven.
Please bring small sized personal grooming products to be placed in
the bags. Some suggested items are---
For men --- small cans shaving cream, shampoo, chap stick,
deodorant, soap, razors, toothpaste, toothbrush
For women --- add to the above list, makeup, lotion, cologne, body
powder
If you do not have time to shop for these items, or do not wish
to—Bring money and someone will do it for you.
Note: The reason we are not doing for the children at Hope Haven
this year is that several other organizations are taking care of
them and the adults don’t have as many sponsors. |
Quilter’s Classifieds
If you have a quilt related item for sale or if you need to find
something, let me know and I will include it in this section |
Care
If you know anyone ill or has lost a loved one, please
let Sue Drumheller know. Also, if you let Varnelle know, she can
include them in the newsletter. |
Quilting Questions
“I have some old spools of thread that were in my Mother’s sewing
box. Are they too old to use?
Old thread is not safe to use in your new quilts. It may break and
allow your quilt to fall apart. The old spools of thread are better
left for decoration in the quilting room.
Why not place them in an antique canning jar or in a special jar
designed as a lamp base. They can be used on a “sewing wreath” along
with some other items such as buttons or an old measuring tape. Add
yoyos, bits of ribbon or lace and a little pincushion for a pretty
wall decoration. |
Rehab Brunch
The West Texas Rehab brunch is to be held in the boardroom at the
Rehab Center on Saturday, December 3, at 10:30 AM. All quilt guild
members are invited.
A Note from Carolyn
I don’t know if you receive the Quilter’s Newsletter or not but
there was an article on the Bulletin Board page called “Backtrack”.
It was reviewing past issues and stated that in the December 1992
issue there was a report on the devastating impact Hurricane Andrew
had on Miami and its quilters. More than 100 quilt guilds,
companies and individuals from across the country were reported to
have sent fabric, books, patterns, and supplies to the affected
area.
It was of significance to me since our guild took donations of quilt
supplies and mailed a box to the quilters in Florida.
Thought we might have a few members who would remember that time.
